It is an honor to welcome you all to Florida thisweek on behalf of AHRA, the board of directors, and the countless individuals that helped make this eventpossible. As we celebrate our past, let’s also look forward to the amazing future ahead! This week is an incredible timethat I look forward to each year, both personally and professionally. I always leave the AHRA Annual Meetingbuzzing with new ideas and energy to bring back to my team, and an incredible feeling of optimism ahead forthe week. Get ready to network, make new friends, and check out the latest and greatest in the Gathering Place, formerlyknown as the Vendor Hall. Step out of your comfort zone and soak in all the wisdom from peers across thecountry. Here’s to an epic week — let's make it unforgettable! If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask an AHRA staff member or a member of the Design Team who will bedressed in PINK. We are now in year two of our strategic plan and the board, AHRA staff, and other members have all been veryactive in working toward our goals in growing membership, innovating and adapting, and forging new strategicalliances with our partners. This year we also welcomed a familiar face to lead our staff team as executive director of AHRA — JasonNewmark! While all good things take time, we’re thrilled with the progress the team has made to launch andevolve our technology offerings, build structure and framework for innovation, host a stellar turnout for CLIMBOnline this past spring, lead efforts in bringing in more than $4.2 million dollars to our five-year Living OurLegacy campaign, and to bring each and every one of you here this week with us. As many of us take the figurative or metaphorical stage this week, I encourage each of you to be present withus and to seek out ways that you can get more involved in supporting AHRA. That can be as simple as the CEcredits we offer or becoming part of our recently launched Mentoring for Success Program, supported by ourpartners at GE HealthCare. From members to our industry partners, the AHRA community is strong, inclusive, and determined to be yourcontinued connection point in medical imaging. As my presidency ends this week, I am overwhelmed by theopportunities that lie ahead and very much look forward to continuing to be a part of such an epic “family!” I look forward to seeing all of you this week, kicking off with the President’s Welcome Reception tonight at 6:30PM EDT in the Canary Room. I hope to see you there! By Becky Allen, CRA, AHRA President, 2023-2024

In recent years, the call for diversity, equity, andinclusion (DEI) has echoed across various industries, urging organizations to foster environments whereevery individual feels valued and empowered. Inradiology, where we serve diverse patientpopulations and work with a wide array ofprofessionals, the importance of incorporating DEIcannot be overstated. As part of the AHRA DEICommittee, I am honored to highlight the critical rolethat DEI plays in shaping the future of our radiologydepartments and AHRA.We have long known that radiology is a fielddedicated to diagnosing and treating patientsthrough medical imaging. Our primary goal is toprovide accurate diagnoses and compassionate care. However, achieving this goal requires more thantechnical expertise — it demands an understandingand appreciation of the diverse backgrounds andexperiences of patients and healthcare providers.Enhancing Patient Care through DEIOne of the most significant benefits of incorporatingDEI in radiology is improving patient care. Patientscome from various cultural and socioeconomicbackgrounds, and their experiences and perspectivescan significantly influence their healthcare journey.By fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, radiology departments can better understand andaddress each patient's unique needs. For instance, a diverse team of radiologists andtechnologists can provide more culturally competentcare, improving patient satisfaction and outcomes. When patients see themselves represented by theirhealthcare providers, they are more likely to feelunderstood, respected, and forthcoming, enhancingtheir overall experience and trust in the healthcaresystem.Promoting Innovation and CollaborationDiversity within radiology departments also fuelsinnovation and collaboration. When individuals fromdifferent backgrounds and perspectives cometogether, they bring a wealth of ideas andapproaches to problem-solving. This diversity ofthought can lead to more creative and practicalsolutions, ultimately advancing the field of radiology.Furthermore, an inclusive work environmentencourages open communication and collaborationamong team members. When everyone feels valuedand heard, they are more likely to contribute theirunique insights and expertise, fostering a culture ofcontinuous improvement and excellence.Building a Stronger FutureIncorporating DEI is not just a moral imperative, it isessential for the sustainability and growth of ourradiology departments. A commitment to DEI helpsattract and retain top talent as professionalsincreasingly seek workplaces that prioritize equityand inclusion. Moreover, it strengthens our ability toserve diverse patient populations and adapt to theevolving healthcare landscape. As AHRA embarks on it own journey, I encourage allmembers to embrace DEI in their daily practices. Letus work together to create an environment whereeveryone feels valued, respected, and empowered.Doing so can ensure a brighter, more inclusive futurefor radiology. If you would like more information and resources onDEI in radiology, I recommend attending the DEIsessions this week or checking out DEI content onthe AHRA website. Together, we can drivemeaningful change and make a lasting impact on ourprofession and the communities we serve.By Karen Stewart, BSRT(R)CV, CIIP, CRA
